Guerneville: (don't call it Guerneyville!) The largest town on the river; mid-way between Santa Rosa/Hwy 101 and the coast/Hwy 1. Charming small town with lots of shops, restaurants, bars, pee wee golf, bike rentals, Johnson's Beach, boat rentals, sport & tackle shop, historic landmark bridge, Armstrong Woods State Park (self-guided trails in old growth redwoods) and Visitor's Center on the town plaza.
Rio Nido: (1 mile east of Guerneville on Hwy 116) Area's only public swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, mini golf, playground. Close to public beach.
Monte Rio: (4 miles west of Guerneville on Hwy 116) Great beach, area's only movie theater with great popcorn and hot dogs, plus live theater, boutique nursery, and some good restaurants.
Cazadero: (7 miles northwest of Guerneville). Redwood forest with homes scattered on the hills and along Austin Creek and Ward Creek. Historic general store; Raymond's Bakery; restaurant and bar at CazSonoma Inn.
Forestville: (6 miles east of Guerneville on River Road; 7 miles southeast of Guerneville on Hwy 116). Hacienda Beach area has forests, several beaches, a market, and is the entry to the Westside Road wineries. Central Forestville is classic wine country, with vineyards, farms, and wineries and several excellent restaurants.
Duncans Mills: (8 miles west of Guerneville on Hwy 116) Great shopping in historic, picturesque buildings, wine tasting, art galleries, old trains, museums, restaurants, general store, wine shop.
Jenner: (16 miles west of Guerneville on Hwy 116) Quaint oceanside village overlooking the mouth of the river. Great views, terrific restaurants, near Goat Rock State Park with its spectacular beach and harbor seal nursery.
Occidental: (6 miles south of Monte Rio) Historic Italian restaurants and interesting shops.
Bodega Bay: (10 miles south of Jenner) Fishing village, crab shacks, seafood restaurants with ocean views, bird and whale watching, golf course, art galleries.
