A delightful, interesting tour of our pioneer cemetery, with emphasis on Civil War veterans who came west to the Russian River after the war ended. All but one were Union soldiers, while Santa Rosa was settled by Confederate soldiers! I really recommend wandering about the cemetery even without a tour. It's at the top of Woodland Avenue, walking distance from our home Woodland Hideaway, a peaceful look into historical and contemporary lives in the area. I'll do a more detailed report at a later time. In the meantime, please do check out our historical society.

Dinner tonight at Chef Patrick's on Main Street in Guerneville, one of my favorite local dinner houses. The food is California French, perfectly executed, always delicious, lovely, calm ambiance, and unbelievably low-priced. Two thumbs up--if you haven't tried it, do so. You'll become a fan. Only proviso---if you want good wine, bring your own.
Tonight we both had the special, beef ragout. Even though I don't eat red meat, I couldn't resist what I knew would be perfect for a rainy night. And it was just as good as anticipated. Plus I had a chilled sweet pea soup that was out of this world---I could eat this every day forever. Five star creme brulee for dessert and we rolled out, very happy campers.

( 3.1 / 217 )Onlty 20% of the grape crop is in and vineyard workers are frantically trying to get the rest in. The rain wasn't supposed to start until this afternoon, but it has been raining since early morning. As it is, the harvest is smaller and later than usual due to cool weather, so the early rain is bad timing for this year's vintage.
The workers have been picking like crazy the past three days, but lots of chardonnay and pinot grapes are still on the vine. Dry weather returns Wednesday so let's hope those grapes survive today and tomorrow.

Word is that Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Funny People, The 40 Year Old Virgin) is getting married in the Russian River Valley this weekend. He and his friends were spotted kayaking on the Russian River today; no word as to where the wedding will take place. Healdsburg, maybe? Jack Black and Adam Sandler reportedly are here as well. So apparently everyone in the upper Russian River area is packing a camera this weekend.
