If you haven't been to the Russian River Getaways office, you might want to walk by sometime. It's actually an historic building, part of the original train depot buildings in the early part of the century, with an addition. It's elevated 14' (yes, it floods that much here every twenty years or so). I'm a rose fancier, so the front yard (and for that matter the back yard) is full of roses, along with wisteria. All quite lovely when everything is blooming.

Walkng down Main Street today and saw this gorgeous piece of marble sculpture in the Withywindle Gallery window. Oh for a spare $1500...BTW, the pink elephant in front of the River Theater is gone, so the mystery thickens.

Shrimp fajitas at the River Inn tonight, which happens to be next door to Jerry Knight's River Theater. Taking an entire parking place in front of the River Theater is a rather large pink elephant. Why, pray tell? Can anyone enlighten me, especially since we have a bar in Monte Rio called the Pink Elephant which is currently being renovated? I'll let you know if I solve the mystery. In the meantime, we can enjoy this very cute pink elephant.

( 3 / 521 )Just wanted to mention that most of the delectable oils and vinegars served at Whitetail Wine Bar are made by Via Giusti, served with a Nightingale baguette from Forestville. The Via Giusti products are strawberry balsamic vinegar, mushroom sage oil, blood orange olive oil, chocolate balsamic vinegar, and basil garlic olive oil. Hard to pick a favorite, but I'd probably go for the blood orange. The Wine Bar also serves black truffle oil, mediterranean herb oil, and a couple of classics. Can't wait to go back....

Josette, the Russian River Getaways Concierge, and I met at WhiteTail WineBar at 4 p.m. today for their special tasting---three excellent wines at $3 per glass and we also ordered a superb bread, dipping oil, and dipping vinegar platter. Beautiful, tranquil atmosphere (the owner is an interior designer) with comfy couches as well as bar seating. This is a great addition to Guerneville's Main Street and we hope this business gets great local support, in addition to the service for visitors---there is nothing else like this anywhere in our area. Wines are for sale, but there's no pressure to buy. We're going to try to work out a way for our guests to have private group tastings; keep posted.
