Great Blue Heron at Dusk
I was down at the Russian River last evening with my dogs and saw a great blue heron so close I was amazed. Usually they stay on the other, deep channel, side of the river in this area, but this one was right on the beach. He/she finally flew across the river when I approached a little closer, but later came back. I am so in awe of these birds. I have read that they can pierce a person's skull with their beak, so you don't want an altercation with a great blue. Unfortunately it was too far into dusk for a photo, but I'll try again another time.

Russian River Blues Festival

What an experience. Buddy Guy is one of the greatest guitar players ever and he's a great performer at 74. If you love the blues, you have to love Buddy Guy. And B.B. King turned 86, still playing that incredible guitar, voice still strong, still connecting with his adoring audience. Also really liked Jackie Greene, a newer talent, new to me anyhow. Seemed like a huge turnout so I hope this event is back on solid financial ground.

Efren's birthday party
Many of the Russian River Getaways staff are headed for Efren Carrillo's birthday party, which is also a fundraiser for his campaign fund for 5th District County Supervisor. He's a great friend of tourism, so we do support him. Should be a great party with live Mexican music, great Mexican food, and margaritas. Hope I'll get a decent photo to post tomorrow. Seem I've been quite the gal on the go lately. And the Blues Festival is coming up Sunday!!!

Sanctuaire

Drove out to Sanctuaire to see the new stonework around the swimming pool and was just blown away by how beautiful this place is. October is gorgeous up there and I wish I could just sit up there for a month. This is the most peaceful place I know. Off-season rates apply in October even though so far it remains plenty warm enough to swim and we're hoping that extends into October. If you haven't seen Sanctuaire, take a look: http://www.rrgetaways.com/sanctuaire_1.htm.

Velouria: our newest Guerneville listing

Being in Velouria is like being in a treehouse, forested hillside all over, yet only a few minutes drive to downtown Guerneville. Love the mid-century furnishings and the solarium dining area that makes you feel like you're eating outside when you're cozily indoors. This is our newest listing and I think people looking for something a little bit different will love it, as long as all the stairs are not a problem. You ramble down the hill to the satellite bedroom, a little further to the lounging deck (what a great spot for relaxing in a patch of sun in the forest) and another few steps down to the large hot tub on its own deck. Lots of places to just be. Check it out at http://www.rrgetaways.com/velouria_1.htm. It booked immediately for this weekend, but otherwise it's pretty much available.
