Down at the beach this afternoon, disturbed six turkey vultures catching the last rays of the day. Before I could get a photo, they flew up to the trees and spread their wings to dry. Can't help but think they are magnificent creatures,even though I would rather not watch them eat.

Mushrooms

It's odd that with no rain all of December mushrooms are so plentiful this year. Maybe the night mist is enough to keep them happy without rain to batter them. At any rate, they are quite beautiful. These are from my yard, but I'm going to Armstrong Woods to check out the display there. The redwood forest loves its mushrooms!

December 30 on the River

Simply hard to believe this photo was taken today, December 30. And there's no end in sight to this beautiful weather. Some drizzle today, but then sunshine---and it's warm as well. Those folks canoeing were enjoying what is nearly a summer river---low, slow, just not as warm. Tasha isn't really interested in the canoe. She's checking out the dozens of ducks, including two that are coal black, no idea what they are. I don't think I've ever seen black ducks before.

New Year's Eve

If you're not into the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Rio Theater in Monte Rio for your New Year's Eve entertainment (you'll be home in time to watch the ball drop), there are some other happenings at the river, all very inexpensive. You can probably afford to stay here, do New Year's Eve, and spend less than you'd spend at a lot of venues in the Bay Area. And no traffic to speak of. Here they are:

-Main Street Station-869-0501: Brulee Jazz with a Twist! 7:30-midnight. Cover is $15 or $25/couple and includes champagne.
-Rio Nido Roadhouse-869-0821: Fargo Brothers. $30 cover charge. Champagne and breakfast at midnight.
-Trio-604-7461: 6:30-10:00 Vernelle Anders (r&b/jazz),10:30-midnight Brothers of Siren (rock/soul/blues).

Come on up--we have some great homes still available in different sizes. Try Chef Patrick's for dinner and then meet the river community at the Rio Theater for Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9:00: costumes fun, but not required! And the weather is great!
