My brother and I went to Highland Dell in Monte Rio last night for dinner. It had been years since I had been there and I had forgotten how completely gorgeous this building is---in its restored 1906 condition it is a very special place. Took forever to get our food, but the wait was unusual apparently (maybe short of staff in the dining room)and the food was excellent. We both had jaegerschnitzel and salads, with great beer, and we both loved our dinners. They have a dining deck overlooking the river, shown in the photo, and I tried to capture the amazing open-beamed ceiling in the dining room itself. Definitely a must-go-back. The food is basically German, but there are other entrees as well---they had salmon last night. And apple strudel for dessert!
