Just about every evening I take my Portuguese Water Dogs down to Drake's Beach at dusk, when we have the beach to ourselves if we don't count the birds. Last night there was a green-backed heron at water's edge and then, most surprisingly, an osprey swam to the beach and perched on the gravel bar, looking for all the world like a goose. It wasn't until the bird took flight, less than 20' away, that I realized it was an osprey--too late for a photo. They usually are high in the trees and they dive from great heights to fish.
The beach is so beautiful at this time, all the boats from the neighborhood piled up, resting from their day's labors, and the dogs have so many smells to investigate. By the way, Russian River Getaways has four vacation rentals on this beach, plus two more nearby. So I do share my beach....
