So much fun last night. The Mighty Chiplings, a bluegrass band, opened for the Best Intentions, a Motown band who resurrected the best songs, renditions, and moves of that era. We all knew all the words and the dance floor under the redwood trees was packed. This is the only event permitted in the 1933 amphitheater, located in a redwood grove in Armstrong Woods. Standing ovation and rockin' encore ended a fantastic show. And what fun to walk back to the shuttle using flashlights---it's dark in them there woods!

( 3.1 / 243 )Last night I saw Willie Nelson live at the Wells Fargo Center, just 20 minutes from downtown Guerneville. SO GREAT! He just dives in and sings, no chat, no breaks, just one iconic song after another. The photo shows him signing autographs from the stage after the concert. Photos were terrible--too much glare from the spotlights--and this was the best of them. I'm resolved to pay attention to the concert line-up at the Wells Fargo Center and get to more of their concerts. It's a small venue, all good seats, and they attract great talent.

( 3 / 170 )This Saturday you'll find me and my family at Armstrong Woods, enjoying a festival of Motown celebration with live music, wine, beer, and food, all to benefit the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, an organization desperately trying to keep our redwood park open in the face of state de-funding. This will be a lot of fun. Starts at 4 p.m. and is the only event allowed in the Armstrong Woods 1930's era amphitheater. See the link for more details. Please do join me. You'll be glad you did!

( 2.9 / 370 )If you haven't been to the Russian River Getaways office, you might want to walk by sometime. It's actually an historic building, part of the original train depot buildings in the early part of the century, with an addition. It's elevated 14' (yes, it floods that much here every twenty years or so). I'm a rose fancier, so the front yard (and for that matter the back yard) is full of roses, along with wisteria. All quite lovely when everything is blooming.

( 3 / 383 )Walkng down Main Street today and saw this gorgeous piece of marble sculpture in the Withywindle Gallery window. Oh for a spare $1500...BTW, the pink elephant in front of the River Theater is gone, so the mystery thickens.
