Let's Get Cozy!

Just like that, it's raining, so I'm making my first fire of the season. Despite the fact that we're supposed to return to sunny days next week, I have fireplace yearnings. Most of our homes have fireplaces or wood-stoves and they turn a dreary, rainy day into a magical, cozy, heart-warming experience. And last night was a hot tub night---chilly enough to enjoy the contrast. Before I lived here, I used to visit the river almost always in the winter. I loved the solitude, the mist, the fire in the fireplace, and the hot tub under the stars. Now that I live here, I love the winter just as I always did. I am feeling very cozy!

Fall Colors in the Vineyards

What could be more beautiful than autumn at the river? This photo is of a vineyard in the Russian River Valley--wish I knew the kinds of grapes--but this is why fall is my favorite season here at the river. The grape harvest is in and vines are all preparing for their winter sleep. Who needs to go to Vermont?

Weddings and Other Events in the Russian River Valley

So many people contact me about wanting to get married in the Russian River Valley, many hoping to be married at a vacation rental in a beautiful setting. Yes, that would be wonderful, but Sonoma County has an ordinance that prohibits all weddings and similar events at vacation rentals. We do, however, have a wonderful event venue at the Monte Rio Community Center and we have numerous vacation rentals within walking distance so guests can enjoy the reception and not have to worry about driving. So if you're looking to have an event here, do check this out. It's much less expensive than other venues in the area.

Still Summer on Drake's Beach in Guerneville

Down at Drake's Beach with the dogs, late afternoon, and there was a kayaker in a bikini enjoying a bit of a rest before she took off upstream. The Mallards were gathered on the beach and they all took off when Tasha (far right) approached them, just curious and puzzled as to why they all swam away when all she wanted to do was sniff their butts. She does this to the chickens at home, but the Mallards don't know she's a harmless sniffer. Very warm in the sun, quickly had to discard my jacket. What a beautiful summery fall we're having!
