Golfers think they've gone to heaven when they see the spectacular greens at Northwood Golf Club in Monte Rio, California, just 4 miles from downtown Guernevill in the beautiful Russian River Valley of Sonoma County.  This course, studded with magnificent redwood trees, was designed by Alister Mackenzie in 1928.   Alister Mackenzie, known for his design of Cypress Point and Augusta National Courses, created a destination course at Northwood, still beautifully maintained and often visited by well known public figures.  This is truly an unforgettable golfing experience.

The course, a 9 hole par-36 playing out to 5,784 yards for the complete 18 holes, is surrounded by forested coastal mountains and the lovely Russian River.  The white tees have a rating of 67.7, with a slope of 133; the red tees have a rating of 72.2, with a slope of 127.  The fairways are narrow, the greens slope, and the play is challenging yet fun for novices.  The ninth hole, with its par-5, 526 yard play, ends precisely at Northwood Bar and Restaurant, which features a dining deck overlooking the green.

When you're ready for a snack break or a fine meal after a day on the green, the Northwood Restaurant serves drinks, burgers and appetizers all day long, as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner. A post office, coffee shop and an old-fashioned barber shop all make their home at Northwood as well.
